Paul’s letters to Timothy are commonly called the Pastoral Epistles however, Timothy was an Apostle therefore a more appropriate term would be Apostlic letters or Epistles. Paul is encouraging Timothy to be faithful to his calling and ministry. Paul was coming to the end of his life and ministry and was encouraging his son in the faith.
Timothy is reminded that he is living in the last days. The last days were perilous times, and Timothy was encouraged to endure afflictions. The Lord’s kingdom would fully arrive with the Lord’s appearing.
Paul also gives Timothy instructions concerning the qualifications of bishops (overseers).
