Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu put coals of fire in their incense burners and sprinkled incense over them. In this way, they disobeyed the LORD by burning before him the wrong kind of fire, different than he had commanded.Leviticus 10:1

"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me." Psalm 51:10

The Bible talks about David’s selection and anointing as king—how people often look at outward appearances, but God looks at the heart. Everything with God begins at the heart level.

It is with our hearts that we worship God.

It is with our hearts that we turn to Him.

It is with our hearts that we serve Him.

Our relationship with God begins at the heart, and so correction must also begin at the heart level. If we desire a pure and authentic relationship with God, we must be quick to address and correct matters of the heart.

The sons of Aaron brought an offering to God that looked like worship and even smelled like worship—until the impurities of their hearts corrupted it. God judged them not just on what they offered, but on the heart behind it. A small difference in intent, a hidden impurity, led them to offer “strange fire,” and they were judged because their hearts weren’t right.

Let us echo the prayer of David in Psalm 51:

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”

Be quick to guard and examine your heart—because life is an expression of the heart.

Blessings,

Apostle
