The Gospel of Luke

Luke’s gospel begins with the birth of John, and Zacharias’ prophecy of God’s mercy arriving in fulfillment of His covenant oath to Abraham. John was the prophet that represented the end of the law and the prophets (16:16). Luke records the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy of Jesus being God’s anointed one (Christ).

Luke records the sending of the twelve, and the sending of the seventy, which are representative of the formation of a new Israel. Luke also speaks of the days of vengeance that were coming to Israel, for the shedding the blood of the prophets who were the covenant messengers of God. Luke records the Judgement of Jerusalem with surrounding armies, and the scattering of the Jews into all nations (Luke 21:22-24). Luke records Jesus weeping over the city of Jerusalem (19:41).

Luke’s Olivet Discourse is recorded in chapter 21. Luke refers to the tribulation as the days of vengeance, and great distress (21:22-23).

The initiation of the New Covenant is recorded in Luke 22:20. Luke was a medical doctor (Col 4:14). The Gospel of Luke is the longest Gospel.
